A West Hartford man whose wife was killed in a still-unsolved homicide in Madison in 2010 is in prison for not paying a $138,000 debt he owes to her estate.

The New Haven Register reports that a state judge in New Haven ordered Jeffrey Hamburg, 63, to prison on Wednesday.

Judge Bernadette Conway said Hamburg hasn't paid any of the debt, despite being able to afford a Park Avenue apartment in Manhattan and five overseas trips.

Barbara Hamburg, 48, was found dead outside her Madison home in March 2010. Police questioned Jeffrey Hamburg, but no arrests have been made.

Hamburg was charged in September with stealing $100,000 from his two children's bank accounts.

Hamburg told the judge he can't find a job or get any loans.

The Register reports that Hamburg testified that he has applied for 600 jobs. However, getting around is difficult because he was injured in a crash in January 2011, he said, and his name shows up in stories about the murder of his wife, the Register reports.

He's due back in court Feb. 14.
