Interstate 84 East in East Hartford was closed for several hours after a tractor-trailer got stuck under a bridge and backed up traffic for at least five miles on Thursday morning.

Police said the driver, Miguel Camallery, 47, of Miami, Florida, missed a sign on the overpass stating that the clearance was 13 feet, 10 inches. The load he was carrying was 14 feet, 4 inches.

His truck hit the overpass on the Founders Bridge onramp from Rt. 2 Westbound and a company was called to remove the truck.

The driver has been charged with operating an oversized load without a permit and operating contrary to log book.

Police removed traffic from the road at Exit 53.
