State Police Identify Person Killed in Fatal I-84 Crash in East Hartford

State Police have identified the driver killed in a one-car crash on Interstate 84 west in East Hartford Sunday morning.

Randy James, 36, of East Hartford, died in a crash near exit 56 in the westbound direction. State Police responded after receiving a call reporting the crash at 2:18 a.m. on Sunday.

The highway and on-ramps in the area were shut down in that direction for a few hours after the fatal crash involving at least one car, a 2002 Chrysler 300M, according to State Police. The highway has since reopened.

The car, registered to Richard James, of Hartford, came to rest against a guardrail after rolling over on the highway and was crushed.

Accident reconstruction teams were on scene Sunday morning investigating the cause of the accident. State Police identified the driver through fingerprinting and notified his family.
