A multi-vehicle crash had traffic at a standstill on Interstate 84 westbound in West Hartford around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
State Police said Halloran Zanone, 19, of Waterbury, and someone referred to as Mookie, of Waterbury, were racing on I-84 Eastbound near exit 43.
Mookie lost control of his car and sideswiped the car a 28-year-old Bridgeport woman was driving, police said. He went over the median, onto Interstate 84 westbound, flipped over and rolled several times.
Police said that driver also hit the car driven by a 42-year-old Brooklyn, New York man and then struck a car driven by a 31-year-old Miami, Florida man, head-on.
The right and center lanes were shut down as police and crews cleaned up the scene.
Two people suffered minor injuries. The road fully reopened just before 9 p.m.
