One Dead After Crash on I-95 in Old Lyme

A Florida woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Old Lyme Sunday.

State police said Lynda Salek, 71, of Bonita Springs, Fla., was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in the right lane of I-95 north between exits 70 and 71 around 2:45 p.m. when the crash happened.

According to police, the car veered off the highway into the right shoulder, hit a guardrail and crashed down an embankment. The car went airborne before hitting a tree and stopping, police said.

Salek was fatally injured. The 46-year-old driver of the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed for several hours while police investigated but has since reopened.
