Incident Prompted “Shelter in Place” Order at Westport School

Bedford Middle School in Westport went into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon “due to an emergency situation away from the building,” according to a statement the principal sent to parents and guardians.

Principal Adam Rosen wrote that Westport police instructed him to issue a “Shelter-In-Place” order at 1:15 p.m. and students remained in their classrooms with their teachers.

There was no incident at the school, he urged and normal instruction resumed at 1:25 p.m.

NBC Connecticut reached out to Westport police, but they did not provide any information.

No additional information was immediately available.
