Judge Postpones Rowland's Sentencing Until January

A federal judge has agreed to push back the sentencing for former Governor John Rowland to January so that Rowland can spend the holidays with his family.

Rowland was convicted last week of seven counts related to his attempts to hide work on two Republican congressional campaigns through phony business deals.

U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton granted a defense request to move sentencing from Dec. 12 to Jan. 7 so Rowland could spend the holidays with his family.

The convictions carry a total possible sentence of 56 years in prison, though Rowland likely will face much less time under federal sentencing guidelines.

Defense attorney Reid Weingarten also filed a standard motion Wednesday asking the judge to overturn the jury's verdict. Arterton did not immediately rule on that motion.
