Jaymie Bermudez wept tears of happiness as the verdict was announced. She’s not going to jail for a sexual relationship she had with a 14-year-old boy.

Bermudez, 24, had been charged with second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and illegal sexual contact.

There’s DNA evidence that the boy fathered her child. And it's a crime in Connecticut for a minor to have sex with someone who is three years or more older than the minor.

But, a jury in Waterbury Superior Court acquitted her on Thursday of all charges that came as a result of the relationship she had with the teen last year.

The sex wasn't forced, Bermudez's lawyer, Robert Berke, said, and the boy lied about his age.

Berke said feels very fortunate because she had faced up to 30 years in prison if she had been convicted.
