Greenwich High Football Player Goes Through Surgery After Crash

A Greenwich High School football player suffered a concussion and a collapsed lung when he crashed into a box truck near the high school around 6:20 a.m. on Monday, police said.

Police said the teen was heading on the right side of the road at East Putnam Avenue, passed Overloook Drive and was trying to cross the street to get to Cardinal Stadium when he hit a door of a box truck that was heading east.

The student was not wearing a helmet and suffered injuries.

He was transported to Stamford Hospital, where he went through emergency surgery and is expected to survive.

Greenwich police officers responded to the scene and are still investigating the accident.
