Some residents in Watertown are up in arms that a killer dog has gotten a second chance at living.

Nikko, a Rottweiler-mix that charged at and killed a 9-pound Pomeranian will not be put down, Republican American reports. The reason the dog was pardoned is that this was the first incident Watertown police were notified involving Nikko.

Earlier this month, Brenda Weems and her dog Suzy were walking down Steele Brook Road when Nikko charged across the grass, Weems said, and within seconds, Suzy was in the dog’s jaws. When the struggle was over, Suzy, the Pomeranian was clinging to life, the newspaper reports.

The Animal Control Officer issued a permanent restraining order on the animal.

Nikko’s owner will have to construct a pen, take him through obedience training and keep him under her direct control while moving him. Nikko will remain locked up at the pound until the enclosure is built and inspected, the Rep-AM reports.

Neighbors of Nikko’s told the Republican-American that twice, the Rottweiler-mix attacked his Black Lab. Police weren’t called because the dog wasn’t injured.

Neighbors say its just a matter of time until Nikko attacks again.
