A convicted killer wants credit for cooperating with prosecutors, and a lighter sentence.
Deaneric Dupas was convicted in the horrifying rape and murder of a 13-year-old New Milford girl more than 10 years ago and but he wants judges to reduce his 47-year sentence.
Dupas didn't get credit for helping prosecutors in their case against co-defendant Keith Foster, so his lawyer plans to argue before a Sentence Review Panel on Nov. 24.
"We will argue the same thing we argued in the Supreme Court," defense attorney David Moraghan told the Republican-American. "His sentence should have been modified to reflect the assistance he gave to the state in its prosecution of Keith Foster."
The October 1997 killing of Maryann Measles was grisly. She was kidnapped, raped and strangled. Then, her body was wrapped in a blanket and chains and dumped into the Housatonic River.
Authorities say Measles was killed after filing a complaint with police alleging two of the defendants had sexually assaulted her.
Dupas, 33, Foster and six other people were convicted.
