A future lab hoping for millions of dollars in funding will have to wait.

Rocky Hill’s anticipated new Public Health Laboratory was denied nearly $70 million in funding by Democrats on the State Bond Commission Tuesday. The proposed 110,000 square-foot facility is supposed to replace the obsolete lab in Hartford, and has been in the works for five years.

Rep. Cameron Staples says Democrats asked Rell to push back the vote date because they were given only five days notice and believed they needed more information. After being denied more time to discuss the funding, Democratic votes were tied, which automatically defeated the bond funding.

Governor Rell accused Democrats of playing politics over the matter and.said she was “extremely disappointed.”  She felt the board members should have known about the details of the development.
The issue may come back for a vote before April 15.
