Police with automatic weapons ready to fire searched two houses in the South End of Hartford on Wednesday after some children reported seeing a man with a weapon.
Police found nothing they would discuss, though the investigation continues.
A detective confirmed word in the neighborhood that some children had reported being confronted by a man with a shotgun who was upset the kids were throwing rocks at his house.
The two blocks of Campfield Street, between Bushnell and Preston streets, were closed from around 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Police said "a few" people were asked to leave their homes for safety.
"We were looking around," said Capt. Achilles Rethis. "I can't give you the details of the investigation but we were looking into a report of a person with a weapon."
