The state’s largest community college is expanding to create a satellite campus in a downtown Manchester building being donated by a regional bank.
Manchester Community College will open more classrooms in the Main Street building to accommodate growing enrollment, which has crowded classrooms at its main campus.
Representatives from First Niagara Bank, state officials and Manchester town leaders announced the donation on Wednesday.
They said the bank's $1.3 million gift includes value of the building, which Manchester will own; and an undisclosed cash donation for the college, the building's main tenant.
The building housed a men's clothing store for six decades until 2001, when the Savings Bank of Manchester bought it. That bank later merged with others to become NewAlliance Bank, and First Niagara acquired the building in its merger with NewAlliance.
