Lawmakers to Take on Bill to Protect Residents Against Data Breaches

The state legislature is holding a public hearing on Tuesday on a bill aimed to protect consumers from falling victim to data breaches.

The bill would allow consumers to ask stores you no longer do business with to delete your personal information so that your personal information would not be compromised in the event that the company is hacked.

The bill says,

"Any person who conducts business in this state and who, in the ordinary course of such person's business, owns, licenses or maintains computerized data that includes credit and debit card information, shall remove such credit and debit card information upon the request of a customer who no longer wishes to engage in business with such person."
