Hartford Registrar Will Fight Dismissal Attempt

A lawyer for a Democratic registrar of voters says she plans to fight any attempt by the Hartford City Council to remove her.

Council members have said they will seek to remove the city's three registrars following Election Day problems when some polls opened late and some residents could not vote.

Attorney Leon M. Rosenblatt said Thursday that Democratic Registrar Olga Vazquez won't resign and will fight the removal. He said a report released last Friday contains "deep flaws" and incorrect statements.

Rosenblatt said it failed to take into account that no one's in charge.

Working Families Party registrar Urania Petit said she did her job properly and vows to not resign. She could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Garrett S. Flynn, a lawyer for Republican registrar Sheila Hall, declined comment.
