Letters Go Out for F&S Restitution

Almost 10,000 former customers of F&S Oil have received letters saying they might be eligible for a share of about $1 million in restitution.

The money will compensate consumers for oil and services they paid for but never received after F&S abruptly closed its doors on 2008, according to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

The letters, which include information on applying for restitution, come from The Garden City Group of Seattle, Washington and should begin arriving in mailboxes this week.

There is also a Web site that includes information on the restitution program, or consumers with questions can call the toll free information hotline, 1-800-961-2157.

Consumers can also call Blumenthal’s office at (860) 808-5400.

“The administrator will distribute checks as soon as possible to F&S customers literally left in the cold by the company’s sudden closure. Scarce assets were a huge hurdle in our tough fight for restitution, but this result assures some relief. My office will work closely with the claims administrator to assure that consumers receive compensation fairly, quickly and efficiently,” Blumenthal said.

Consumers will have until May 3, 2010 to return applications for restitution mailed them.
