Lifeguard Staffing Winds Down at State Parks

Lifeguard staffing at Connecticut's state park beaches is beginning to wind down for the summer season.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says most state park swimming areas will be unguarded on weekdays, now through Labor Day. Swim areas will be posted with signs where there are no lifeguards.

Lifeguards are expected to be on duty this weekend and Labor Day weekend at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield and Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme.

Lifeguards are also scheduled to be working Labor Day weekend at Indian Well State Park in Shelton and Silver Sands State Park in Milford.

DEEP officials say many lifeguards leave to return to school. There will be no guards after Labor Day, Sept. 5.
