AT&T union workers in danger of losing their jobs rallied on the State Capitol steps in Hartford Thursday.

Almost 400 AT&T union workers from across Connecticut rallied together in the cold on the steps of the State Capitol in an effort to save jobs.

Last month, AT&T announced plans to slash 40,000 jobs nationwide, 450 of those jobs coming from Connecticut.

In the shadow of an AT&T building, union workers held homemade signs and even brought out a blow up rat Thursday to get their point across to anyone who would listen.

"Day by day the morale is horrible.  In our garage everyday we don't know if we're going to have a job or travel 50 miles to a new job.  We don't know what we're going to do," said AT&T employee Chad Turoczi.

While the worker's union says customers will suffer, AT&T says the cuts are unavoidable because traditional land-line demand has declined significantly recently .

Did anyone read/ hear about their technicians? They were lounging out in their trucks rather then doing their wo ... MORE >
  • brent Friday, Jan 9 at 3:03 PM FLAG COMMENT AT&T is a wasteful company, they spend millions on contractors to set poles and perform other tradtional telecommunications work while the workers who normally have done this work are home or laid off. Follow the money they spend to disrupt their own customers service. Thats right, they want everyone to go to voip service which is non regulated. AT&T will spend millions to fight workers whom have done the job very well ... MORE >
  • Anonymous Friday, Jan 9 at 1:17 PM FLAG COMMENT Land-line usage wouldn't decrease so much if they didn't charge too much fo it. Users are now turning to other alternatives such as bundling with a cable company, using IP based voice services, or even going to cell phones only in attempts to save money. All of which are cheaper then the old fashioned land-line.
  • John A Friday, Jan 9 at 9:44 AM FLAG COMMENT Unfortunately companies just can't afford to do business with beligerent Unions anymore. The money they spend each year fighting with the union would probably cover the 400 jobs.
