Police charge woman's boyfriend with murder

A 23-year-old former Greenwich woman killed early Sunday morning was attacked so brutally that her internal organs protruded from one of her wounds, according to the criminal complaint.

Sarah Coit's boyfriend, a 33-year-old public relations executive, was arraigned on Monday on second-degree murder charges.

Police found Coit in the living room of her third floor Lower East Side apartment. at 63 Clinton St. shortly after 2:30 a.m., suffering from multiple stab wounds. She had been stabbed multiple times in her face and torso. The autopsy also revealed she suffered blunt trauma to the head.

Detectives arrested Raul Barrera who lived with the her and charged him with second-degree murder.

Coit is described as a blond 5-foot, 10-inch "stunner" who ran cross-country at Greenwich High School and studied advertising and marketing at Hunter College, according to the New York Post

Police say Coit had called police on one occasion in January to complain of a verbal dispute with Barrera when the couple lived in midtown Manhattan.

Jason Figueroa, 15, who lives just above Coit's apartment, told the Daily News he could hear her being attacked on Sunday, so he called the police.

"She was like 'Stop, get off of me,'" he told the paper. "And she was yelling and then she just got quiet," he said, "That's when I called 911."

Coit was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m.
