A Madison man was arrested in Guilford on Wednesday for allegedly chasing and threatening schoolchildren and claiming to have a bomb in his backpack, according to police.
Police responded to the scene at the Guilford Town Green after numerous 911 calls. They detained and arrested Brendan Garvey upon arrival.
Witnesses said Garvey was making gestures that suggested he was loading and pointing a pistol, according to police. But, the object that appeared to be a pistol ended up being nothing more than a cellphone and a silver tire gauge.
Police did not find any explosives or firearms on Garvey.
Garvey was arrested for first-degree threatening, risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for an evaluation, according to police.
