Window-shopping became a contact sport after part of the wall collapsed at the Westfield Mall in Milford Monday.

David Foster was shopping with his girlfriend when he heard a noise he described as a train coming.  "It got louder and louder and as you looked up you could see the whole soffit across from us collapsing with a big cloud of dust coming off it."

The fire department says it was a section of the drywall that hangs over the stores that fell; they’re just not sure why. The building department is investigating.

A 27-year-old man was slightly injured in the accident, suffering some cuts to his back. Customers say that if the collapse happened at a busier shopping time, many more people could have been hurt.

For shoppers needing a spending fix this Monday, the mall remained open throughout the incident.

Four stores, Motherhood Maternity, Gymboree, PCX and Hot Topic were closed as a safety precaution, but they are expected to reopen Tuesday morning.
