Malloy Kicks off Tourism Push

Gov. Malloy unveiled his "Still Revolutionary" marketing campaign in May.

Bristol, CT – The timing of Governor Dannel Malloy’s visit to Western Connecticut today raised some eyebrows.

In May, Gov. Malloy unveiled “Still Revolutionary,” a two-year marketing campaign to rev up the state’s tourism industry.

The initiative highlights state landmarks. In May, it focused on the casinos, and the Essex Steam Train. However, Western Connecticut was absent from that initial ad campaign. Governor Malloy today argued that wasn’t an oversight.

“There was a vineyard in it…the vineyard could be one of the many vineyards that could be throughout Connecticut,” said Gov. Malloy.

“You can't include everything in every part of the ad,” added Gov. Malloy.

Today, the Governor focused on Western Connecticut. He toured Lake Compounce Family Theme Park and got on some of the rides.

“I have to hit every wooden coaster in the state,” said Gov. Malloy.

Lake Compounce Family Theme Park attracts about 700,000 visitors each year, and the facility hopes the governor's visit will boost those numbers.

“We hope that with this recognition of the governor, and with the Still Revolutionary campaign that's going on, that it'll help us increase outside state visitation,” said Sara Frias, Lake Compounce Director of Marketing.

Linda Browning, who visits Lake Compounce often, said she hopes the governor’s visit will inspire people to come out and enjoy all of what Connecticut has to offer.

“I think it's great that he would come all this way to see this park. Hopefully, he'll visit some of the other tourist attractions across the state,” said Browning.

Governor Malloy is expected to visit Goshen later today, and attend OpSail 2012 this Saturday.
