Southington police have arrested a New Britain man accused of beating his mother to death.
Police said James D’Aguila, 34, of New Britain, beat Donna D’Aguila, 64, to death at her home on South Road in Jensen’s Trailer Park on Saturday, stole her car and drove back to his home.
Police arrested James D’Aguila around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday after a neighbor called police because she was worried about the woman and her cats.
"It's been a few days since she had seen her neighbor," Sgt. Lowell DePalma, of Southington Police, said.
Police went to Donna D’Aguila's home and found her body on the floor. Neighbors told officers that they heard Donna and James arguing on Saturday, but did not think anything of it at the time.
Police found James D’Aguila at the YMCA in New Britain, where he has been living, and charged him with murder, felony murder, robbery in the first degree and larceny in the third degree.
Police said James D’Aguila has a criminal history that includes assault and trespassing charges. He also suffers from schizophrenia, according to testimony in court.
Bond was set at $1.5 million bond.
Neighbors said Donna kept to herself and James unconditionally cared for his mother.
Police are waiting on autopsy results.
