Man Charged With Grabbing Toddler Faces Judge

The man accused of grabbing a toddler away from the boy's mother in Bristol faced a judge Monday.

John Brasseur, 50, approached a young mother who was walking with her two children on Prospect Street on Friday, according to police.

Brasseur allegedly asked the mother what she was doing with his baby, grabbed the 3-year-old boy by the arm and walked away.

The mother ran over, grabbed her son back from Brasseur and walked home with both of her children and called police, investigators said.

She told police Brasseur followed her for some time before leaving the area.

Police said officers canvassed the neighborhood and residents were able to identify Brasseur by name.

Officials learned Brasseur is on parole in Waterbury. Police later found him in Wolcott.

Brasseur is charged with risk of injury to a minor, unlawful restraint in the second-degree and breach of peace in the second-degree.

His attorney said Brassuer does not dispute the charges. He is expected in court again in June.
