A 25-year-old New Haven man who is accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend was arrested on Saturday morning.
Just before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, New Haven police responded to Fair Haven to investigate a call to the domestic violence hotline.
A 22-year-old pregnant woman told police that her boyfriend, Manuel Crespo, attacked her, police said.
She told police she and Crespo were arguing and it turned into a physical attack.
Crespo pinned her down, spat at her face, sat on top of her and held his hand over her mouth, she told police.
She told officers that Crespo had a gun.
She told them she had hidden it but did not tell say that Crespo ever had the gun during the assault.
When asked, Crespo told officers he had a gun. They detained him as his mother brought officers inside the residence to retrieve the .45-caliber Desert Eagle handgun.
An ambulance took the victim Yale- New Haven hospital for an evaluation. She had no evident injury.
Crespo was arrested and charged with strangulation in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the second degree, threatening in the second degree, assault in the third degree of a pregnant person and disorderly conduct.
