Man Beaten During Attempted Robbery in New Haven

A New Haven man was beaten during an attempted robbery on Sunday night.

Officers John Barbetti and Nicholas Katz responded a report of a disoriented man in the area of Elsworth Avenue and Edgewood Avenue around 11 p.m. on Sunday and found a 33-year-old Elsworth Avenue resident with a bloodied face.

He told police that he had walked home and found two men waiting there.

They claimed they knew someone else who lived there and attacked the victim when he turned away, police said.

He said the men knocked him down and punched and kicked him while demanding that he hand over his money.

The victim said he said he did not have any, and did not even have a wallet.

The men ran off and the victim was not able to provide a description.
