Man Charged With DUI After Colliding With Middletown Police Cruiser

A 25-year-old man is charged with DUI and other offenses after colliding with a Middletown police cruiser at the intersection of Washington and High streets overnight.

The crash happened near Wesleyan University just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said Officer Patrick Kiely was stopped at a red light when a Ford Focus driven by Christopher Griffiths, of New Britain, struck him from behind.

Kiely received minor injuries and was treated and released from Middlesex Hospital, police said.

Griffiths was not injured. His passenger, 24-year-old Rudy Lockhart, of Bristol, was also taken to Middlesex Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Griffiths was charged with driving under the influence, operating with a suspended license and traveling too fast for conditions.

Lockhart was charged with possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana.
