Man Charged With Driving Under Influence After Police Chase, Crash

A driver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after leading police on a chase through East Windsor and then getting into a rollover crash in Enfield, police said.

Ryan Runyon, 26, of Enfield, was charged with driving under the influence, engaging police in a pursuit, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to drive in the proper lane. He is suspected of "huffing air duster," impeding his driving, police said.

East Windsor police received two complaints about a vehicle driving erratically on North Road on Friday at 5:18 p.m. Witnesses told police that the car struck a sign on the road by Shoham Road and kept going. Police notified area departments to be on the lookout for the vehicle and it was seen by Mullen Road. The driver wouldn't stop when an officer tried to pull the vehicle over. The officer saw the car narrowly miss a telephone pole and take off into a field off North Road before turning left on the exit 45 North on-ramp.

East Windsor police stopped chasing the car and notified state and Enfield police.

Ten minutes later the car, driven by Runyon, crashed in Enfield and flipped over.

East Windsor police responded and took Runyon into custody and arrested him.

He is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court on Aug. 3.
