A man is charged with assaulting a girl at the popular recreation area.
A 66-year-old Farmington man accused of approaching three girls in the shower area of Winding Trails Beach and inappropriately touching one of them on Monday afternoon has been arrested.
Farmington police responded to Winding Trails Beach at 50 Winding Trails in Farmington just before 4:30 p.m. for a report of a man making sexual remarks to several young girls and detained Mark Tully, of 7 Essex Court, in Farmington within minutes.
According to police, Tully approached three girls, ages 13, 13, and 7, in an outdoor shower area adjacent to the beach and forced one of the 13-year-old girls into a corner of the walled in shower area and touched the girl’s breasts.
Police said it appeared as if Tully tried removing the girl’s bathing suit as well.
The girl was able to break free, flee into the bathroom locker room area with the other two girls and several older teenage girls helped them get away from Tully, police said.
The girls immediately notified parents and staff.
Police received reports that Tully also made lewd comments to other young females at Winding Trails and was seen following another unknown teenage girl.
According to police, Tully was intoxicated and had two bottles of vodka.
Tully and charged him with kidnapping in the first degree, sexual assault in the third degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, unlawful restraint in the second degree and breach of peace in the second degree.
Tully is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond,
He was scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday, but the court appearance has been delayed because Tully is hospitalized.
