Man Charged in New Britain Murder

Police have charged a man with the murder of a Meriden man who was found dead in a car in New Britain on Dec. 30.

Joel Jaquez, 31, of Springfield, Massachusetts has been arrested in connection with the death of Jesus M. Silva, 24, of Meriden, who was found unresponsive in a car at Yeaton Street and Farmington Avenue at 7:48 p.m. on Dec. 30 and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The office of the chief medical examiner determined he died of a gunshot wound and his death was ruled a homicide.

Jaquez was arrested on a warrant and charged with one count of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.

He is being held on a $2 million court-set bond and is due in court in New Britain on May 4 for arraignment.

When Jaquez was arrested, he was in New Britain Police custody, being held on a $1 million dollar bond, as a fugitive from justice out of the State of Florida.

The arrest warrant has been sealed and police have not released any additional information.
