One man is dead and another has been arrested after a stabbing at a Church Street home in Newington Tuesday night.

Michael Carbone, 31, of New Britain, was stabbed to death inside a home at 680 Church St. around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Newington police said, and residents said this is unsettling and scary.

“I’ve lived here 43 years and it’s always been a very quiet street,” said Roseanne Thompson, who lives across the street from the house, which is covered in yellow crime scene tape.

Carbone was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital. Andrew Michaud, 27, who lives in the Church Street home, was arrested at the scene, charged with murder and held on a $1 million bond.

Investigators said four people were inside the home when a fight broke out, including the couple who owns the home, a man who rents a room inside the home and Carbone.

“We’re scared.  We don’t know what happened or who killed the guy,” Thompson said.

Police said  Michaud knew Carbone  and they are not looking to arrest anyone else.

Michaud is due to appear in New Britain Superior Court Wednesday morning. The Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad is assisting Newington Police with processing the crime scene.
