Man Found Shot in New Haven Driveway

Police are looking for the suspect or suspects responsible for shooting a New Haven man in the driveway of a home on Dewitt Street Saturday afternoon.

A New Haven man is dead after being shot in a driveway Saturday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Garry Williams, 28.

Williams was found dead in a driveway on DeWitt street. His cousin is left wondering why.

“He was never the ‘gangbanger’ type…He was cool,” said Alexis Batts. Shirren Hawkins was with her grandson when she heard the gunshots outside her home.

Hawkins said she tried to help Williams, who was still alive, when she found him in her driveway.

“He was breathing…I was like, ‘stay with me, stay with me. The ambulance is coming,’” said Hawkins.

Williams was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It hurts. I grew up with him,” said Batts.

Now, Batts hopes someone comes forward and tells police who killed her cousin.

“Go to the cops, tell them what happened,” said Batts.

A suspect hasn’t been identified. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
