A 41-year-old former resident of Hartford and Torrington has been sentenced to federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography.

Thomas E. Stickle, 41, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Warren W. Eginton in Bridgeport on Wednesday to 188 months in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release, according to a news release from David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Stickle traded images of child pornography with other individuals by email from December 2009 to May 2010.

Officials said they found 478 images and six videos of child pornography on Stickle’s computer and email account.

Most, officials said, were of children under the age of 12 engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

On May 10, Stickle pleaded guilty to one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography and the penalty was increased because of a prior conviction.

On August 8, 2003, Stickle was convicted of possession of child pornography, sexual assault of a minor and illegal sexual contact with a minor.

Stickle has been in state custody since May 21, when he was arrested for violating the terms of his probation.
