Empty Wallet Nearly Leads to Shooting

An early morning stick up in New Haven nearly became something much worse on Thursday when two men tried to rob a food delivery driver, and tried to shoot him.

The 45-year-old victim was delivering food at Clinton and Grand avenues just before 5 a.m. when a man ran him down and dragged him to his truck, the New Haven Register reports.

While one man held the victim at gunpoint, another looked through the victim's wallet. But when he only found credit cards and no cash, one of the suspects said, “I have to shoot you then,” and pulled the trigger, the newspaper reports.

Fortunately, the gun didn't go off and the victim was able to escape.

The victim soon spotted New Haven Police Officer Lisa Wexler, who was on her way to a call and jumped in the back seat of her car.
