Man Robbed Bank With Fake Explosive Device: Police

The Hartford Bomb squad responded to Windsor Tuesday morning after the suspect in a bank robbery was found with what appeared to be an explosive device, according to Windsor police.

Arthur Thompson, 59, of Windsor, is charged with robbery, larceny, breach of peace, and threatening. Police allege that Thompson robbed the Santander Bank at 578 Windsor Ave. and fled on a bicycle.

Police said that when they caught up with Thompson a short distance away, they discovered he had a suspicious item that appeared to be an explosive. The road was closed and the Hartford Bomb squad was called. They determined that the device was fake and there was no danger.

Thompson was held on bond and is expected in court on September 28. Police said the money he stole from the bank was recovered.
