West Haven Man Sentenced for Death of Shaken Baby

A West Haven man has been sentenced to prison time for shaking a baby so violently that the boy died.

Thirty-seven-year-old Angel Santiago was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in prison suspended after nine and followed by five years of probation. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December.

Prosecutors say Santiago was watching 5-month-old Kyle Robinson in Ansonia in June 2011 when he shook the baby so hard that the boy's spinal cord separated from his brain.

Santiago was the boyfriend of Kyle's mother and was watching him and two other boys at the time. He wasn't the boy's father.

Santiago had told authorities that he found Kyle unresponsive and tried to revive him.
