Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Construction Accident

The incident happened at a parking garage at Logan Airport

A construction worker is fighting for his life after falling 40 feet from the third floor of a parking garage.

The incident happened at a parking garage next to Logan Airport that is owned by Massport. The worker was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Massachusetts State Police said the victim is 53-year-old iron worker from Seymour, Connecticut, and he remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that an approximately 32-ton precast concrete panel fell to the ground while it was being hoisted and secured in place on the third level of the garage. The worker, who had been trying to secure the panel, fell about 40 feet to the ground.

Work has stopped at the scene. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is on scene assisting state police with the investigation.

Turner Construction, the general contractor for the project, released a brief statement.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm that a worker was injured this morning at the Boston Logan Airport Central Parking Garage project. He was rushed to the hospital and work was suspended on the site."

The worker was not employed by Turner, but Blakeslee Prestressed Inc., a subcontractor on the parking garage.
