Naugatuck police arrested a man after bullets came through walls of neighboring apartments where children were present.
Police responded to Aetna Street at 10:12 p.m. on Wednesday when a residents reported a bullet coming into their apartment.
The residents told police they looked out their bedroom window when they heard their neighbor, Absalom Rowe, 49, swearing, heard what sounded like a gunshot and one of the residents felt debris hit his legs, police said. The bullet came through the bedroom wall, about 1 foot from where the couple was standing.
The couple’s 3-year-old son was in the next room and was not hurt, police said.
When police went to Rowe’s apartment, him was intoxicated, police said.
Rowe denied hearing gunshots, but police said they found spent shell casings, live ammunition and a 9mm handgun on the floor of the apartment. It still had ammunition in it, police said.
Police said Rowe starting shooting the handgun the day earlier, but no one reported it.
Police found seven bullet holes in Rowe’s apartment, three of which entered a nearby apartment, where children live.
Rowe was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment in the first-degree, eight counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol, four counts of risk of injury to children and breach of peace.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
