What should have been a routine power check turned into a frightening experience for one utility crew from California on Monday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.
CL&P had hired the out-of-state contractors to assist in restoring power after Tropical Storm Irene knocked out utilities for hundreds of thousands of residents.
When the crew approached a home on Bailey Street in the town of Brooklyn just before 10:30 a.m., the homeowner confronted the contractors, pointed a firearm in their direction and ordered them off of his property, according to a news release from police.
The homeowner then followed the contractors off of the property and the utility crew immediately notified the Connecticut State Police.
Officers from Troop D responded to the scene and located the homeowner and the firearm.
Kyle Wojcik, 30, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Bond was set at $25,000 and Wojcik is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
