Man Tried to Lure Girl Into His Car: Police

A Meriden man was arrested in Hamden after a 12-year-old girl reported that he told her to get into his vehicle.

The girl was riding her bike at High Top Circle and Midhill Drive last Tuesday when the driver of a black Chevrolet Blazer told her to get inside of the vehicle, police said. The teen refused and the driver left.

Moments later, Sergeant Michael Cirillo saw the Blazer at Dixwell Avenue and Church Street, so he stopped it.

The driver, Michael Roberts, 47, of Meriden, initially told officers that he didn’t speak with any children, then said he told the juvenile to stay away from power tools, police said.

Roberts, who police said has an extensive criminal record, was charged with risk of injury to a minor and held on a $1,500 bond.

It’s not clear if he has an attorney.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on July 6.
