Man Trying to Stop Car Theft in Fairfield Is Badly Injured

A man who was trying to stop someone from stealing his car in Fairfield was struck by the vehicle the thief fled in and has serious injuries, according to police.

A customer who left a Bed, Bath & Beyond store in Fairfield at 4:40 p.m. Monday noticed the victim, who was bleeding from the head, lying in the parking lot and screaming for help.

The victim, who works in a nearby business, had been walking to his vehicle after work, noticed someone in his car and confronted the person, according to police.

The would-be thief got out of the victim’s car, got into what looked like a black Ford F-250 pickup with New York plates and tried to flee the scene.

The victim grabbed onto the moving truck, but was thrown to the ground and was hit by the truck the suspect was in, police said.

He sustained serious injuries to both lower legs and was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Police searched the area, but did not find the man who was trying to steal the car.

A witness last saw the pickup traveling east on Kings Highway East toward Grasmere Avenue.
