Man Who Killed 90-Year-Old Dad Gets 60 Years in Prison

Jan Gawlik claims to have been possessed by the devil when he killed his father.

A Connecticut man, who testified in court that he consumed crack, powder cocaine and Percocet pills before killing and dismembering his 90-year-old father, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Jan Gawlik, of New Britain, was found guilty in November of murder in the death of his father, Jozef. He was sentenced on Friday.

Officials said Jozef was found with 76 stab wounds.

"The scale of these attacks were truly horrific," the judge said.

Jan Gawlik was also charged with third-degree assault on the elderly charge in connection to an attack on his 74-year-old mother in October 2011. He was sentenced to one year for those charges, to be served concurrently.

Gawlik said he loved his parents, but became a hermit in the basement, joined Satan.com and was possessed by the devil.

Now he says he has given his heart to God and wants to be a Catholic priest.

"I would give my life for my father so he would live," Jan Gawlik said.

Jan Gawlik is receiving substance abuse counseling and was ordered to have no contact with family.
