A South Windsor woman and her “male friend” from Newington are facing charges stemming from the physical abuse of two children, according to police.
Police said Jessica Lazu-Spring, 32, of Ivy Lane in South Windsor, “allowed the children to be [continually] exposed to an unsafe environment” when 36-year-old Santos Melenez, of Main Street in Newington, would visit the house.
According to police, Melendez held a child to the ground July 1, injuring the child’s knee. Lazu-Spring allegedly failed to stop the incident and didn’t report it to police.
Melendez is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, breach of peace, risk of injury to a minor and unlawful restraint. Lazu-Spring is charged with falsely reporting an incident and risk of injury to a minor.
Both were arrested Tuesday and held on $80,000 bonds. They appeared in court Wednesday.
