Police Identify Pedestrian Killed on Route 83 in Manchester

Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday evening on Route 83/Oakland Street in Manchester.

Manchester police said 53-year-old John King died at Manchester Memorial Hospital after he was hit by a Subaru traveling southbound on Route 83/Oakland Street Thursday evening. It happened around 6:40 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said it doesn't appear as though speed or driver impairment played a part.

King was walking in the same direction as the Subaru was traveling and was pushing a shopping cart along the side of the road, according to police. He is not associated with any specific address.

Route 83/Oakland Street was closed for hours Thursday between Sheldon and Rachel roads while authorities investigated and worked to clear the scene.

Toxicology results for King are pending.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Manchester Police Officer Jason Moss at 860-645-5560.
