As Linda McMahon prepares to make an official announcement on her second run for U.S. Senate, a new poll finds she'll have to do some work if she wants to win next November.
A Quinnipiac Poll released Friday shows McMahon, the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, holds a lead over Republican Chris Shays, 50-35 percent, but falls short against possible Democratic opponents.
In potential 2012 match ups, Fifth District Congressman Chris Murphy topped McMahon 49-38 percent in the Quinnipiac Poll. Voters surveyed also chose former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz over McMahon 46-38 percent.
"In the Republican primary, Linda McMahon's name recognition advantage over former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays helps give her an early 15-point lead - before she turns on the vaunted McMahon money machine," said Doug Schwartz, Director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
McMahon spent $50 million of her own money in an unsuccessful bid against Richard Blumenthal to win the seat vacated by Chris Dodd in 2010.
In a possible Democratic primary match up, Murphy leads Bysiewicz 36-26 percent with 35 percent of Democrats still undecided.
"There is a lot of room for movement because about a third of Democrats are undecided, reflecting the large percentages who don't have an opinion of either candidate," Schwartz said.
