Meeting on Torrington Methadone Clinic

A methadone clinic is proposed for a former Boy Scouts site in Torrington.

A public hearing will be held in Torrington on Wednesday night about a plan to build a methadone clinic.

The proposal is to build the clinic at the site of a former Boy Scouts office on Kennedy Drive.

Many neighbors signed a petition in April calling on the city to block the proposal, which they complain would drive up crime and reduce property values.

The mayor is also expected to voice his concerns.

Supporters of the clinic have said there's a large drug problem in Greater Torrington and the area needs a place for people who seek treatment.

The hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the city hall council chambers in Torrington.

If the zoning commission thinks the clinic will impact traffic and public safety, it can stop the project.
