The wife of one of Russia's richest men has axed her plans to tear down a 19,000-square-foot Greenwich mega-mansion and replace it with an even bigger mansion. This one would have had 26 bathrooms, a Turkish bath and a Finnish bath, according to the Huffington Post.
Olga Kogan was surprised by the level of opposition there was to her building a 21,000 square-foot house at 18 Simmons Lane, according to the Greenwich Time.
"I still do not understand why this project has brought such criticism as it is clearly permitted to be constructed," she wrote in a letter to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission approved the upgrade in March after a 27,000 square-foot mansion was rejected.
Kogan planned to level the current 19,000-square-foot mansion she bought in 2005 for $18.5 million and build an even larger house.
Kogan is the wife of Russian multimillionaire Valery Kogan, chairman of the East Line Group, which manages one of Moscow's Airports.
Neighbors were concerned about the size of the home and the disruption the extensive construction would cause.
If Kogan changes her mind she could resubmit an application.
