A woman down south had been holding onto something for decades; never losing hope she’d return it to the right person. She had a memoir that belonged to a local woman who passed away in the 80’s. Now, that book is back with her family.
Steven Puzzo never thought he’d be holding the book again.
“This book traveled all over the south for 30 years. So how it never got lost, I don’t know,” said Puzzo.
To Puzzo, the book is a physical document of his family’s legacy. Almost 40 years ago, Puzzo gave it as a gift to his mother, Lois, who recorded poems in it, until she became terminally ill.
“It’s a document of her life. She talks about… Nazis…and how she felt about children and life in general,” added Puzzo.
For decades, that book was in North Carolina, where Puzzo and his family lived briefly during his childhood. It was recovered in an abandoned house.
“I saw this little green book…it was gold-embossed, really pretty,” said Lisa Myers.

Myers said from the moment she picked it up, she developed a strong connection to it.
“I got ideas on how to live and how to love. She reached out to me through those words,” said Myers.
Myers said it wasn’t easy, but she finally parted with it this week, when she found Steven Puzzo.
“I felt like I was giving up a friend… I can relate to so many of her emotions,” stated Myers.
Steven Puzzo said the book is a family treasure, that will be cherished for generations.
“This is my family. This is my life,” said Puzzo.
Puzzo is grateful to have it back; while his mother died years ago, Puzzo said this is one way of keeping her memory alive.
"I’ve got her back,” said Puzzo.
Puzzo also said he’s grateful to Lisa Myers, and hopes to meet and thank her in person one day, for keeping such good care of his late mother’s memoir.
