Shelton Police caught up with the two men they say stole a donation box from the Veterans of Foreign Wars outside a local grocery store.

At around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, police officers were called to the Stop & Shop on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton.  The VFW had been out front collecting donations for Operation Gift Card, which raises money for wounded vets of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

A description of the perps was issued to neighboring departments and a short time later, Bridgeport police stopped a vehicle that matched.

Inside, police say, they were able to locate “money, pamphlets from Operations Gift Card, and crack cocaine”.  Michael Kelly and Matthew Cristino, both 23 of Shelton, were arrested and charged with illegal possession and larceny.

They are scheduled to be back in court on November 30.
